Parco Inn built 1924 Sinclair, Wyoming
We have had a few questions about the blog not being updated timely. The problems are: no time, and then Internet connections. The RV parks advertise WiFi; it seems often it is a very poor. When you ask if it is a broadband or fast connection, the people you speak to do not know, they just know the have it. You get on and then it drops you… very hard to post our photos, and our blog. Sorry! We will try to do better. And, our other excuse is: Jim and I have been visiting with Jim’s sister in Sinclair, WY. He and she have never met before. Both Jim and Sharron were adopted, having the same father. After 62 years Sharron found Jim and they have been communicating since 2004 but this was the first time they really got to meet each other. We were having such a good time that we didn’t get logged into the web.
If you ever get to Sinclair, WY make sure you stop at the Su Casa Mexican restaurant. It is a small restaurant in the middle of town but the food was excellent. They are known for their green chili. Travelers make a point of stopping in to get their fix. Sinclair is an oil town with a refinery nearby and while we were eating lots and lots of oil field works filtered in some to take their food to go and others to enjoy the meal in air conditioning. If you go at lunchtime be prepared to wait a while. But it is worth the wait. Sinclair is close to Rawlings, WY right off of US Hwy 80.
Sharron served us Wyoming ranch T-Bone steaks. What a treat! Her husband’s family operates a Wyoming ranch and I can testify that their beef rivals any in Texas.
It was nice to get a home cooked meal after 2 weeks on the road.
There is a wonderful old hotel in Sinclair called the Parco Inn. It was once home to rich and famous. Amelia Earhart once stayed there. A unique feather is a fountain in the ballroom/dining room where guests could choose their fresh lobster or trout swimming in the fountain. Hard time fell on the community and the hotel is now home to Baptist BYM National Headquarters and Baptist Youth Mission. Mike Holmes ministers the Sinclair Baptist Church and is Executive Director of the Baptist Youth Mission. The architecture remains and the building is being carefully restored. Great job!
There is so much interesting history across this USA especially in small towns. Wyoming’s Frontier Prison is a good example. Sharron and Marv took us there for a glimpse into frontier justice. Located in Rawlings, WY its history dates back to 1886. If you are ever in the area at Halloween check out the special ghostly tour! There is some interesting artwork in the prison done by one particular artist. I saw my first Marmot there. What is a Marmot? An animal that traders used to prize for fur. Cute, fat and furry is how I describe him.
